Our chapter president, Hank Bloomberg has passed away.

Henry E. Bloomberg, age 72, of West Garfield Ave. DuBois, PA died Friday, August 29, 2008 at his residence.  

Born May 21, 1936 in Patton, PA he was a son of the late Einar and Viola (Waugh) Bloomberg.  

On July 30, 1994 he married Sandy (Bloom) Bloomberg who survives.  

He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army.  

Henry graduated from Bowling Green University with a Masters of Science Degree and had retired from the Pennsylvania State Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services in Erie.  

He held a seat on the Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission had been the President of the Pennsylvania Blinded Veterans Association and was a Certified Veterans Service Officer (VARO). He was president of the Clearfield-Jefferson County Chapter of the PA Council of the Blind and had also been the founder and past president of the Northwest Pennsylvania Blind Golfers Association.  

Henry was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.  

In addition to his wife he is also survived by five children: Mrs. Paul (Debbie) Sutkoff of Erie, PA, David Abbey of Erie, Kathy Abbey of Erie, Randy Yarwasky and his wife Rachel of Ohio and Toby Yarwasky and his wife Lisa of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers: Harry Bloomberg and James Bloomberg both of Ohio and Robert Bloomberg of Florida and three sisters: Beverly Smythe of Ohio, Lori Bloomberg of Wisconsin and Lil Sumner of Patton, PA.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Thomas and two sisters: Shirley and Chris.  

The members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard conducted a ritual service Monday, September 1, 2008 from the funeral home.

On September 30, our acting president, Jackie Wissinger, will record a fifteen minute radio interview with WOKW FM, 102.9 Radio. This interview will air on or about October 5 at 7:00am and 7:00pm.

 


 

We will be 'sitting' at several area businesses on Saturday, October 11 to observe White Cane Day and to distribute informational brochures. The locations are;

We are preparing for the PCB state convention in Johnstown on October 31 through November 2. Some of us will be going on Friday and staying the entire weekend. Others will be going on Saturday morning and returning Saturday evening.

 


 

We are also preparing for our new year with our elections for chapter officers. The nominating committee will entertain nominations at our next meeting.
