Membership is open to any individual interested in becoming more aware of matters of concern to the blind and visually impaired in the communities in which we live.
We don't refuse attendance to anyone at our meetings or our social events who isn't a member, we welcome all. However, to be an officer, you must be both a member and have a visual impairment. Any active member is welcome to be a member of our committees.

A special note for the visually impaired, the PBwiki-provided contact page shown at the bottom of each page contains a graphic safety image to interfere with SPAM-bots stealing email addresses from web pages. It will also stymie anyone with a severe visual impairment. Here is a direct SPAM-bot proof email without any graphic shield;
Ten Reasons to Be a Member of the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind:
1. You will meet other people with visual impairments and network among those with similar interests and needs. You never have to feel alone.
2. You can attend meetings of a local group located in various regions of the state to learn from others who are using daily living tools designed for people who are blind or visually impaired.
{The Clearfield - Jefferson Counties Chapter rotates meetings between DuBois and Clearfield, and will expand to other locations as our membership expands.}
3. As a member of the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind (PCB) you will also be a member of the American Council of the Blind (ACB.) You will learn about new research, resources and technology through the PCB publication, the “ADVOCATE," and the ACB publication, “The Braille Forum," - both available in the format of your choice: Large Print, Cassette tape, Braille, or E-mail.
4. You can join a “special interest affiliate” with members who share your particular profession, career interest, or avocation or hobby.
5. You will be encouraged to take the opportunities to experience state and national Conventions every year. Use these gatherings to see the sights in many interesting cities and learn about new ideas and information regarding people who are blind or visually impaired from a broad perspective of the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind and the American Council of the Blind.
6. You will help with fundraising projects that enable PCB, and ACB to advocate for all blind and visually impaired people throughout your community, state and the nation.
7. You will be supporting higher education for students who are visually impaired through the annual awarding of college scholarships by PCB and ACB.
8. You will make a difference in quality of life and public funded services for people who are blind or visually impaired through PCB and ACB sponsored legislative advocacy activities.
9. You can become active as a mentor sharing your knowledge and experience to help others with less experience with vision loss.
And Last but not least.....
10. You will join a group of active, fun-loving, dedicated people who work to make life better for all people who have experienced any loss of vision, and if we accidently help someone else along the way, oh well!
And of course, to be a member, you don't have to have a visual impairment.
